FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN
National Weather Service Marquette MI
445 AM EDT Fri May 17 2024

...Drier today although a chance for some afternoon showers west,
then possible elevated wildfire concerns on Saturday...

.DISCUSSION: Mostly dry conditions are expected today under surface
high pressure, although an advancing warm front could bring some
showers into the western zones this afternoon. Elevated wildfire
concerns could develop on Saturday as increasing southerly winds
send inland temperatures soaring into the 80s. The combination of
southerly winds gusting as high as 30 mph and min RHs lowering near
30 percent could result in elevated wildfire concerns over the west
half of the U.P. Saturday afternoon. A cold front moving across the
area from west to east could also generate some scattered showers
and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. Much drier
conditions develop behind the cold front on Sunday as RHs could dip
to around 20 percent over much of the interior. Fortunately, winds
look lighter on Sunday, generally 10 mph or less, which should ease
fire weather concerns.
