Washington Precipitation Summary

September brought the rains back to Washington state.  All regions
saw above normal precipitation for the month, while some areas saw
double than what they normal receive for September.  With September
being the last month of the Water Year, most of Western Washington
finished near normal with only the Olympics and Southwest Interior
regions below normal.  Unfortunately, nearly all of Eastern
Washington finished below normal with only the eastern slopes of the
Cascades near normal.

For Western Washington, the monthly percentage of normal for
precipitation ranged from 166 percent in the western foothills of
the Cascades to 230 percent in the Northwest Interior.  The greatest
amount of precipitation at the climate stations for the mountains,
coast and interior lowlands was 11.30 inches at Forks in the
Olympics, 9.68 at Quillayute, and 6.27 inches at Elma in the
Southwest Interior.

For Eastern Washington, the percentage of normal for precipitation
ranged from 117 percent in the Eastern Slopes of the Cascades
Palouse to 193 percent in the Central Basin.  The greatest amount of
precipitation at the climate stations for the mountains and lowlands
was 2.81 inches at Mount Adams on the eastern slopes of the
Cascades, and 1.35 at Spokane in the Northeast region.

The outlook for October and beyond for Washington state, for the
next two weeks the outlook is for above normal precipitation.  The
monthly outlook for October calls for above normal precipitation for
the state.  The three month outlook for October through December
also shows above normal precipitation expected for the state.

The table below gives precipitation figures as a percent of normal
for regions of Washington.  The current water year began 1 October
2021 and ends 30 September 2022.

missing data at a site are estimated using observed data from
surrounding stations.
