Heat index readings will increase to between 95 to around 100 degrees this afternoon and early evening. Chances of thunderstorms will increase late tonight and continue into the day Tuesday. Some storms could be strong to severe, with wind gusts to 60 MPH and possibly 70 MPH, especially in northwest Illinois, short-lived tornadoes, and heavy rainfall. Flash flooding is possible as well. Several area rivers will be experiencing flooding this week. Please see the latest Flood Statements and Warnings for details. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY Hot and humid conditions continue Tuesday, with heat index readings approaching 100 degrees for areas along and south of Highway 30. Chances of storms will continue through the day Tuesday, some of which could become strong to severe. There is a Slight Risk, or level 2 of 5, for severe storms across the entire outlook area, with damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding being the main threats.
