This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for northern Indiana and southwest Michigan. .DAY ONE...Today and tonight. Please listen to NOAA Weather Radio or go to weather.gov on the Internet for more information about the following hazards. Heat Advisory. Showers and embedded thunderstorms are expected to move into the area late this evening into the early overnight. These storms may bring wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph with isolated wind gusts up to 60 mph possible from northwest Indiana into southwest Lower Michigan. There is a Moderate Swim risk late this afternoon into tonight for southeast Lake Michigan beaches in northern Berrien County. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday. There is a low chance of thunderstorms through early Sunday afternoon. Severe weather is not expected. There is a Moderate Swim Risk for southeast Lake Michigan beaches on Sunday. Heat indices from the mid 90s to around 100 are possible on Tuesday. There are additional chances of thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... The effects of heat are most impactful for more vulnerable urban populations. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
