This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for central Kansas, east central Kansas, north central Kansas and northeast Kansas. .DAY ONE...Today and tonight. Excessive heat is forecast again today. High temperatures are expected to be in the mid 90s to low 100s with heat indices up to 109 degrees. Be sure to have a plan to beat the heat and check on those vulnerable to make sure they can stay cool. Thunderstorm chances increase during the day with highest chances in eastern Kansas late this evening and overnight. Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat with these storms. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles.
