Primary hazard is damaging wind gusts to 70 mph, large hail to 2 inches in diameter and a few tornadoes. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for most of Minnesota until 8PM. Periods of moderate to heavy rain are expected today and tonight. Flash flooding is possible, and a Flash Flood Watch is in effect. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday Additional rain and thunderstorms are expected late-week into this weekend. LOUIS COUNTIES... At 643 PM CDT Tuesday, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Walker, Breezy Point, Pequot Lakes, Crosslake, Pine River, Deer River, Emily, Marcell, Bigfork, Fifty Lakes, Remer, Wabedo, Nett Lake, Hackensack, Backus, Longville, Ash Lake, Effie, Bena and Federal Dam. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Campers and hikers should avoid flooded trail crossings. If camping at a site along or near the banks of rivers or streams, move away from those locations and seek higher ground. Trails in hilly terrain can quickly become unstable during or shortly after heavy rainfall. Report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and to the National Weather Service in Duluth when you can do so safely. In northeast Minnesota, central and northern St. Louis County. This includes the Tribal Lands of the Bois Forte Band, Nett Lake, Deer Creek and, Lake Vermilion areas. Recreation spots such as Voyageurs National Park. This also includes the Boundary Waters western area. * WHEN...Through Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Showers and thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rain today, with localized areas receiving up to 1 to 3 inches of rain. This will fall on top of already saturated soils and rivers with normal to above normal streamflow.
