This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of northeast
Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Significant flooding will continue today over portions of
northern Minnesota, especially along the North Shore. Flooding is
also occurring along the South Shore, especially in northern
Bayfield County. Water levels in smaller creeks and streams will
recede this afternoon and evening while water levels will rise in
mainstem rivers.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday

Water levels in rivers and streams over northeast Minnesota will
remain high with flooding concerns shifting from smaller creeks
and streams to mainstem rivers over northeast Minnesota.

Additional rain and thunderstorms are expected late-week into
Saturday. Heavy rain and some additional flooding issues are
expected. The highest rainfall amounts are expected from northwest
Wisconsin into the Brainerd Lakes region.

Reports of rainfall and flooding from spotters and the public are
requested.

Minnesota...

  Vermilion River near Crane Lake affecting far northern St. Louis
  County.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON TO EARLY
TUESDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Vermilion River near Crane Lake.

* WHEN...From Thursday afternoon to early Tuesday morning.

* IMPACTS...At 12.0 feet, Flooding of Gold Mine Road and public
  river access begins.
  At 14.0 feet, Gold Mine Road flooding likely at public river
  access.  Access to Gold Mine Camp affected.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 8:30 AM CDT Wednesday the stage was 10.9 feet.
  - Bankfull stage is 12.0 feet and expected to be reached by
    late Wednesday evening or early overnight.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage
    early tomorrow afternoon to a crest of 15.5 feet early
    Saturday afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage late
    Monday evening.
  - Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
  - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
    15.2 feet on 04/25/1985.

...FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM CDT THIS AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...In Minnesota, Cook, Lake and St. Louis Counties.

* WHEN...Until 400 PM CDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams
  continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 442 AM CDT Wednesday, Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have
    fallen and rivers and streams remain high and some continue
    to rapidly increase. Law enforcement reports flooding along
    portions of Highway 61 along with debris on the road,
    especially between Beaver Bay and Lutsen. The Baptism and
    Beaver Rivers continue to rapidly increase. These high river
    levels will impact many of the hiking and camping areas along
    the North Shore.
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    Grand Marais, Gunflint Lake, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Grand
    Portage, Clear Lake, Lutsen, Tofte, Beaver Bay, Fairbanks,
    Wolf Lake, George Manitou State Park, Dumbbell Lake, Sugar
    Loaf Cove, Little Marais, Taconite Harbor, Finland, Isabella,
    Temperance River State Park and Forest Center.
  - Flood safety information can be found at

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Campers and hikers should avoid flooded trail crossings. If camping
at a site along or near the banks of rivers or streams, move away
from those locations and seek higher ground. Trails in hilly terrain
can quickly become unstable during or shortly after heavy rainfall.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is ongoing.

* WHERE...In Minnesota, west-central and northern Lake County and
  much of central to far northeastern St. Louis County.

* WHEN...Until 400 PM CDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Expect
  many areas of slow moving or standing water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 915 PM CDT Tuesday, rain gauge observations and doppler
    radar showed heavy rain that accumulated in the warned area
    late Tuesday evening from thunderstorms. Flooding is already
    occurring and expected to last into Wednesday daytime.
    Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen.
  - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the
    warned area through early Tuesday night, but no additional
    accumulations are expected by early Wednesday morning.
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    Ely, Virginia, Eveleth, Mountain Iron, Hoyt Lakes, Gilbert,
    Aurora, Babbitt, Biwabik, Cherry, Embarrass, Winton, Birch
    Lake, White Iron Lake, Bear Head Lake State Park, Robinson,
    Burntside Lake, Fall Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area
    Wilderness Near Trout Lake and Basswood Lake.
  - Flood safety information can be found at

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Portage and hiking trails may be impassable and low-lying campsites
may be inundated with excessive runoff in this section of the

* WHEN...Until 400 PM CDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads
  remain closed due to flooding.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 900 PM CDT Tuesday, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due
    to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
    shortly in the warned area. Between 2 and 6 inches of rain
    have fallen as of 800 pm CDT Tuesday evening.
  - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible
    tonight.  See the MNDOT 5 1 1 road condition page for the
    latest information at 511mn.org.
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    Hibbing, Grand Rapids, Walker, Lake Vermilion, Virginia,
    Chisholm, Mountain Iron, Cohasset, Breezy Point, Pequot
    Lakes, Crosslake, Coleraine, Keewatin, Buhl, Nashwauk, Pine
    River, Deer River, Cherry, Emily and Hill City.
  - Rises are expected on area rivers and streams through
    Wednesday. This includes the Little Fork River and Vermilion
    Rivers in the Rainy Basin.
