In addition, there is a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) of severe
thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening. The main threat is local
damaging wind gusts.

Another round of dangerously hot weather is expected on Thursday,
July 4th, and on Friday. Heat index values around 105 will be
possible both days.

SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values around 105 expected this afternoon. Heat
  index values of 105 to 109 expected Sunday.

* WHERE...A portion of the eastern Piedmont, Sandhills, and Coastal
  Plain of central North Carolina.

* WHEN...From 2 PM this afternoon to 8 PM EDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
  illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Temperatures will be slow to fall below 80
  degrees tonight, especially in urban areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion or
heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.
