This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for central North Carolina.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

Hazardous weather is not expected at this time.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and isolated severe storms will be
possible late Thursday night and Friday as remnants of Tropical
Cyclone Helene track north into the southern Appalachians.

...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in North
Carolina...

  Neuse River Near Clayton affecting Johnston County.

  Neuse River At Smithfield affecting Johnston County.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL FRIDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Neuse River at Smithfield.

* WHEN...Until Friday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...At 15.0 feet, Minor flooding begins. Flooding begins
  along the Neuse Riverwalk. Water nears the base of the holding
  tank at the water treatment plant.
  At 18.0 feet, Moderate flooding begins. The Smithfield town park
  and the Neuse Riverwalk at the US70 bridge are flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 9:15 PM EDT Wednesday the stage was 17.3 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 17.5
    feet just after midnight tonight. It will then fall below
    flood stage early Friday morning.
  - Flood stage is 15.0 feet.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Neuse River near Clayton.

* WHEN...Until tomorrow afternoon.

* IMPACTS...At 9.0 feet, Minor flooding begins. Minor overflow
  occurs on both banks. Water reaches the edge of the Neuse River
  Greenway trail.
  At 10.0 feet, Upstream of the gage site, the Neuse River Greenway
  at Covered Bridge Road begins to flood.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 9:15 PM EDT Wednesday the stage was 9.9 feet.
  - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
    ending at 9:15 PM EDT Wednesday was 10.8 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage
    late tonight and continue falling to 4.3 feet Monday evening.
  - Flood stage is 9.0 feet.
