This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for central North Carolina.

.DAY ONE...This afternoon and tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday.

Scattered thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening may become
strong to locally severe, with a primary risk of damaging wind gusts.

In addition, dangerously hot weather will continue Friday through
Sunday, with widespread shade air temperatures rising well into the
90s each afternoon, while heat index values will peak at or over 100
degrees, highest this weekend. These unusually hot conditions for
this time of year will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses,
especially for those without access to air conditioning. Avoid
outdoor activities during the warmest parts of the day.

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 105.

* WHERE...Anson, Chatham, Durham, Franklin, Lee, Moore, Nash,
  Richmond, and Wilson Counties.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
  illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.
