...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT SOUTH CENTRAL SAN JUAN COUNTY
THROUGH 315 PM MDT...

At 238 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 11
miles west of El Huerfano Trading Post, or 20 miles south of
Bloomfield, moving north at 15 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and nickel size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
         possible.

This storm will remain over mainly rural areas of south central San
Juan County.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If threatening weather approaches your area, take shelter in a sturdy
building.

Motorists can expect brief but sudden changes in visibility and
ponding of water on highways as storms move through the area.

Blowing dust associated with strong thunderstorm winds can reduce
visibilities below one quarter mile at times.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall may be possible.

* WHERE...Portions of north central, northwest, and west central New
  Mexico, including the following areas, in north central New
  Mexico, Far Northwest Highlands, Jemez Mountains and Northwest
  Highlands. In northwest New Mexico, Chuska Mountains and Northwest
  Plateau. In west central New Mexico, West Central Mountains and
  West Central Plateau.

* WHEN...Through late tonight.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
  creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Abundant moisture over the region will interact with a slow-
    moving disturbance sliding over northwest NM to produce
    showers and thunderstorms this afternoon through tonight.
    Locally heavy rainfall is expected with rainfall rates of 1
    to 2 inches per hour possible.
