...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 545 AM MDT EARLY THIS
MORNING FOR NORTH CENTRAL CIBOLA AND SOUTHWESTERN MCKINLEY
COUNTIES...

At 455 AM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy
rain across the warned area. Between 0.75 and 1.75 inches of rain
have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.75 inches are
possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected
to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
         drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Gallup, Thoreau, McGaffey, Fort Wingate, Vanderwagen, Church Rock,
  Ramah, Coolidge, Manuelito and Upper Nutria.

This includes Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 1 and 21...and
between Mile Markers 24 and 61.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  North Central Cibola County in west central New Mexico...

* Until 630 AM MDT.

* At 425 AM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain
  have fallen since yesterday afternoon, and additional rainfall
  amounts up to 0.75 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash
  flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Grants, Milan, Bluewater Lake, Bluewater Lake State Park and San
  Rafael in Cibola County.

This includes Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 69 and 89.

afternoon and evening enabling numerous showers and thunderstorms to
redevelop.  Stronger storms will be capable of producing rain at
rates over 1 inch per half hour.  Storm movement will also be slow
and erratic, increasing the risk of flash flooding.

* WHERE...Portions of north central, northeast, and west central New
  Mexico, including the following areas, in north central New
  Mexico, East Slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Southern Sangre
  de Cristo Mountains. In northeast New Mexico, Northeast Highlands.
  In west central New Mexico, West Central Highlands, West Central
  Mountains and West Central Plateau.

* WHEN...From noon MDT today through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
  creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop this
    afternoon and evening, and storm motion will be slow and
    erratic.  Stronger storms will produce torrential rainfall at
    rates over one inch per half hour. Rapid runoff will quickly
    produce flash flooding, especially below recent burn scars
    and in locations where the ground is already saturated from
    recent heavy rainfall.
