Strongest winds will be along Highway 95 from Fallon through Hawthorne and Mina where sustained winds could reach 30 mph at times with gusts as high as 40 mph. Aside from the choppy lake waters, motorists in high profile vehicles can expect strong cross winds at times. * Much colder temperatures today with highs this afternoon staying in the 60s to lower 70s. Clearing skies, very dry air and decreasing winds will allow for temperatures to fall to chilly levels overnight. Sierra valleys and even some colder lower valleys, such as the Carson and Smith valleys, have a good chance of seeing several hours of freezing temperatures. Consider protecting sensitive plants tonight and early Tuesday morning if you live in a typically colder location. $$ http://weather.gov/reno
