...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 9 PM CDT THIS
EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values of 110 to
  115 expected.

* WHERE...Choctaw and Pushmataha Counties.

* WHEN...From noon today to 9 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
  will create a dangerous situation in which heat related illnesses
  are more likely.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.

DISCUSSION...
Dangerously hot and humid conditions will remain common across
much of Eastern Oklahoma and west central Arkansas into the
evening hours. The hottest conditions were located along and west
of Highway 69 in eastern Oklahoma, where heat index values of 110
to 114 have been observed.

A slight chance of thunderstorms will be possible late tonight
into early Saturday morning along the Oklahoma and Kansas border
as a weak cold front approaches from the north.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION...
Dangerously hot and humid conditions will continue on Saturday
ahead of a frontal boundary forecast to sag southward into the
region Saturday afternoon. Thunderstorm chances also return
Saturday afternoon mainly north of Interstate 40 with the frontal
boundary moving into the region. A few storms could produce
damaging downburst winds during the late afternoon and evening
hours. Storm chances expand across eastern Oklahoma and northwest
Arkansas Sunday as the boundary moves southward through the
region.

For the first half of next week, hot and humid conditions will
quickly return with thunderstorm chances increasing again just in
time for the Independence Day holiday.
