much of Eastern Oklahoma.

THUNDERSTORMS WITH DANGEROUS LIGHTNING.
RISK...Limited.
AREA...Far Northeast Oklahoma and far Northwest Arkansas.
ONSET...Mainly late tonight.

DANGEROUS HEAT.
RISK...Significant.
AREA...Much of eastern Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas.
ONSET...This afternoon.

AREA AT GREATEST RISK...Locations along and west of Highway 75 in Oklahoma.

DISCUSSION...
Dangerously hot conditions will return today across much of
Eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas with widespread afternoon
heat index values greater than 100 degrees and up to 114 degrees
in some spots. The hottest conditions will impact locations along
and west of Highway 75 in Oklahoma, where an Excessive Heat
Warning will be in effect from noon to 9pm. A Heat Advisory will
also be in effect from noon to 9pm for much of far eastern
Oklahoma and west central Arkansas.

A slight chance of thunderstorms will be possible late tonight
into early Saturday morning along the Oklahoma and Kansas border
as a weak cold front approaches from the north.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION...
Dangerously hot and humid conditions will continue on Saturday
ahead of a frontal boundary forecast to sag southward into the
region Saturday afternoon. Additional heat headlines will likely be
needed Saturday. Also Saturday afternoon, thunderstorm chances
return mainly north of Interstate 40 with the frontal boundary
moving into the region. Storm chances expand across eastern
Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas Sunday as the boundary moves
southward through the region.

For the first half of next week, hot and humid conditions will
quickly return with thunderstorm chances increasing again just in
time for the Independence Day holiday.

CDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 114
  expected.

* WHERE...Muskogee, Okfuskee, Craig, Creek, Mayes, Nowata, Okmulgee,
  Osage, Pawnee, Rogers, Tulsa, Wagoner, Washington OK, and McIntosh
  Counties.

* WHEN...From noon today to 9 PM CDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
  will create a dangerous situation in which heat related illnesses
  are more likely.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.
