This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of southwest North
Carolina...east Tennessee and southwest Virginia.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

There will be scattered showers and thunderstorms around again
today, primarily after noon. Best timing for a strong to severe
thunderstorm is mid-afternoon to just after sunset, with wind
gusts 40 to 60 mph possible.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday

...Tropical System May Move into the Tennessee Valley and
Southern Appalachians Late Week...

Unsettled weather will persist Wednesday into Thursday bringing
additional rainfall. Localized flooding may occur, especially in
areas that see repeated rounds of heavy rain.

From late Thursday through Friday Night, a tropical system may
move north into the Tennessee valley and southern Appalachians.
Confidence is low about the exact impacts, timing, and path of
this storm. However, torrential rainfall and localized flash
flooding are possible, especially across the Plateau, southeast
Tennessee, and southwest North Carolina.

Windy conditions during the tropical remnants are possible as
well, especially across the far east Tennessee Mountains,
Plateau, and southeast Tennessee.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY
AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Flash Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of southwest North Carolina, including the
  following areas, Cherokee and Clay and east Tennessee, including
  the following areas, Bledsoe, Blount Smoky Mountains, Bradley,
  Cocke Smoky Mountains, East Polk, Hamilton, Johnson, Marion,
  McMinn, Meigs, Northwest Monroe, Rhea, Sequatchie, Sevier Smoky
  Mountains, Southeast Carter, Southeast Greene, Southeast Monroe,
  Unicoi and West Polk.

* WHEN...From Wednesday morning through Friday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
  creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
  Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - An area of showers and thunderstorms will develop and move
    across the region Wednesday and continue through Thursday
    morning. A brief period of drier conditions is possible
    Thursday before Tropical Storm Helene moves into the southern
    Appalachians late Thursday through Friday morning. Periods of
    torrential rains with flash flooding is possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.
