This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for central Virginia, south
central Virginia, southwest Virginia, west central Virginia and
southeast West Virginia.

.DAY ONE...This afternoon and tonight.

There is a Marginal Risk for Severe Thunderstorms through this
evening. A few storms may be capable of producing damaging winds,
large hail and heavy downpours that may result in minor flooding
issues.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday.

There is a low probability for widespread hazardous weather.

The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  Northern Appomattox County in central Virginia...
  Southwestern Buckingham County in central Virginia...
  Eastern Amherst County in central Virginia...

* Until 900 PM EDT.

* At 807 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
  extending from Clifford to near Shipman, moving south at 25 mph.

  HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
           to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
  Amherst...
  Bent Creek...
  Clifford...
  Tower Hill...
  Falconerville...
  Riverville...
  and New Glasgow.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. For your
safety, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy
building. Stay away from windows.

Locally heavy rain will quickly reduce visibility and result in
ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and
minor flooding of creeks, streams, and areas of poor drainage.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid
hydroplaning.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of hail of any
size, as well as reports of any wind damage, including downed trees
or large limbs, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free

...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 930 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of central Virginia, including the following
  counties, Amherst, Appomattox and Buckingham.

* WHEN...Until 930 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 623 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
    thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
    shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain
    have fallen.
  - This includes the following streams and drainages...
    Brick Kiln Branch, Blackfoot Creek, Appomattox River, Bent
    Creek, Beasley Creek, Abbott Branch, Alabama Creek, Buffalo
    River, Allens Creek, Bear Branch and Bowler Creek.
    Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected
    over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
    flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.
