Dangerous heat continues again today with heat index values up to 100 F possible. In addition, another round of strong to possibly severe thunderstorms is expected this afternoon and evening. At 118 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over South Hero, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Westford, Fairfax, South Hero, Georgia, Grand Isle, Georgia Center, Milton, Fletcher, Colchester, Essex, Wilcox Point, Mallets Bay State Park, Sand Bar State Park, West Milton, East Georgia, Kellogg Island, Grand Isle State Park, Jackson Point, Hoyt Point, and Robinson Point. The hottest conditions will be in portions of the Champlain and Connecticut River Valleys. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Indoor temperatures may continue to rise after peak heating hours in poorly ventilated spaces.
