This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for northern New York, central
Vermont, northeast Vermont, northwest Vermont and southern Vermont.

   Heat Advisory. Unusual heat is expected across the North Country
today through Thursday with lower elevated heat indices crossing 100
degrees and Adirondack valley communities in the mid to upper 90s.
Heat impacts are cumulative and will increase the longer these
conditions are present, especially considering overnight low
temperatures will range from the mid 60s to mid 70s decreasing
cooling efficiency of structures. There is a marginal risk of severe
thunderstorms today as well.

...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT CENTRAL ORANGE...SOUTH CENTRAL
CALEDONIA AND SOUTHEASTERN WASHINGTON COUNTIES THROUGH 530 PM EDT...

At 454 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Washington, moving east at 25 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
         possible.

Locations impacted include...
West Fairlee, Bradford, Vershire, Corinth Corners, Orange, Topsham
Four Corners, Washington, Chelsea, Websterville, Corinth, Newbury,
Topsham, Williamstown, Fairlee, Barre Town, Ryegate, Brookfield,
Tunbridge, Randolph, and Groton.

This includes the following highways...
 Interstate 89 near mile marker 46.
 Interstate 91 between mile markers 92 and 109.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 100.

* WHERE...All of Vermont and northern New York. Hottest conditions
  will be in portions of the Champlain and Connecticut River valleys.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
  illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Indoor temperatures may continue to rise after peak heating hours in
poorly ventilated spaces. Those without air conditioning should
consider the potential for lingering health impacts while indoors
late in the day.
