...FLASH FREEZE EXPECTED THIS EVENING...

With light snow coming to an end this evening, any lingering
moisture on untreated surfaces such as roads, bridges, overpasses,
sidewalks, etc. are likely to freeze as temperatures fall below
freezing over the next couple hours.

This could lead to hazardous travel conditions, so use caution if
on the roads.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of eastern West
Virginia, northern and central Virginia, and central and western
Maryland.

.DAY ONE...Tonight

An Arctic front may bring snow showers and some light
accumulating snow tonight.

Dangerous wind chills are expected. An Extreme Cold Warning goes
into effect late tonight for the northwest suburbs of Washington
DC and Baltimore metro areas, and along and west of the Blue
Ridge. Cold Weather Advisories are in effect elsewhere for the
same time period.

A High Wind Warning is in effect for most of the area beginning
late tonight. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the rest of the
area east of the Blue Ridge and south of I-66 beginning late
tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday

Dangerous wind chills continue. An Extreme Cold Warning remains in
effect through Sunday morning for the northwest suburbs of
Washington DC and Baltimore metro areas, and the Blue Ridge. Cold
Weather Advisories remain in effect elsewhere for the same time
period.

A High Wind Warning remains in effect for most of the area
through Saturday evening. A Wind Advisory remains in effect for
the rest of the area east of the Blue Ridge and south of I-66
through Saturday evening.

SATURDAY...

* WHAT...For the High Wind Warning, northwest winds 20 to 30 mph
  with gusts up to 60 mph expected. For the Cold Weather Advisory,
  very cold wind chills as low as 10 to 25 degrees below zero
  expected.

* WHERE...Portions of north central and western Maryland, northwest
  and western Virginia, and eastern and panhandle West Virginia.

* WHEN...For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 4 AM Saturday to 10 AM
  EST Sunday. For the High Wind Warning, from 4 AM to 7 PM EST
  Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines.
  Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult,
  especially for high profile vehicles. The cold wind chills as low
  as 15 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if
  precautions are not taken.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Wind chills will remain at or below zero
  during the day on Saturday due to windy conditions and cold
  temperatures.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and
avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution
if you must drive.

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and
unfrozen water.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.

If you do not have heat in your home or lack shelter, you can call
211 or visit your county or city website for assistance locating
appropriate shelter from the cold.
