SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT National Weather Service ANCHORAGE AK 446 AM AKDT Sat Jun 10 2023 AKZ101-121-125-171-110000- Anchorage-Western Kenai Peninsula-Western Prince William Sound- Kodiak Island- Including the cities of Anchorage, Eagle River, Indian, Eklutna, Kenai, Soldotna, Homer, Cooper Landing, Whittier, Seward, Girdwood, Moose Pass, and Kodiak City 446 AM AKDT Sat Jun 10 2023 ...UNSEASONABLY STRONG STORM WILL IMPACT KODIAK ISLAND, THE KENAI PENINSULA, AND ANCHORAGE THIS WEEKEND... A strong storm system, more reminiscent of weather experienced in the Spring or Fall seasons, will track toward southern Alaska this weekend bringing widespread heavy rain and strong winds. Here are some of the expected impacts: Kodiak Island: *East winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts as high as 55 mph Saturday evening. *Moderate to heavy rain Saturday night, with 1 to 1.5 inches of rain. Eastern Kenai Peninsula: *East winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph, strongest Sunday morning. *For Portage Valley and east Turnagain Arm, gusts as high as 60 mph are possible Sunday morning. *Moderate rain inland with 0.5 to 0.75 inches of rain late Saturday night through Sunday afternoon. Heavy rain along the coast, with 2" or more likely for Whittier and Portage areas. Upper Hillside of Anchorage: *East to southeast winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 55 mph late Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon. ***High profile vehicles should use extra caution if traveling the Seward Highway corridor through Turnagain Arm Saturday night through Sunday as wind gusts could be very strong and erratic.
