Numerous showers with isolated to scattered lightning storms are forecast as a weak surface boundary slips southward into central Florida and deeper moisture accompanies this feature. Though not particularly cool aloft, mid-level energy will also aid in shower and storm development. Cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, brief gusty winds, and torrential downpours will accompany the heaviest activity. .EXCESSIVE RAINFALL IMPACT... Quick 2 or 3 inch downpours are possible with stronger and slower moving storms or locations that receive multiple rounds. This will produce considerable ponding of water on roadways and other poorly drained surfaces. A Flood Watch will be in effect for today and tonight. .RIP CURRENT AND SURF IMPACT... A HIGH risk of numerous, strong, life-threatening rip currents will exist today at area beaches, In addition, expect increasingly rough surf. Entering the water is highly discouraged. .WIND AND SEA IMPACT... Small craft should Exercise Caution for seas building to 5 to 6 feet in an increasing easterly long period swell near shore. Small craft should also Exercise Caution near Inlets during the outgoing tide early this morning and again later this afternoon and early evening. For offshore marine legs, a Small Craft Advisory will be in to effect as seas build to 5 to 7 feet here. In addition, marine interests should also be alert for the potential of waterspouts today and tonight. .RIVER FLOOD IMPACT... The Saint Johns River at Astor is forecast to remain in Minor Flood Stage today, though could experience brief sharp rises from any heavy rainfall. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday. Tropical Storm Milton over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico is forecast to quickly strengthen to a hurricane and move east- northeast across the Gulf of Mexico. It is then forecast to be near or at major hurricane strength as it nears the west coast of Florida by midweek. Residents and visitors should ready their hurricane preparedness kit and plan and continue to closely monitor forecast updates on this system. Deep moisture and a lingering frontal boundary across the Florida peninsula will begin to lead to rounds of heavy rainfall continuing through midweek ahead of and with the passage of the tropical system. This will increase the risk for flooding as multiple parameters are in play and bring heavy rainfall over already saturated soils. Onshore flow and building swells will bring rough surf and a continued High risk of dangerous rip currents to the beaches into next week. Boating conditions will become poor to hazardous for much of the upcoming week as seas build and persistent onshore flow strengthens. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation will not be needed today and tonight. $$ Sedlock
