...Stormy weather this weekend with mountain travel delays

* Snow: Total accumulations from 12 to 24 inches above 4000 feet
  with lessor amounts down to 2500 feet. Locally higher amounts
  along the crest.

* Timing: Snow increases Saturday with the heaviest period of snow
  expected Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening. Snow
  showers with lighter accumulations continue late Sunday night
  and Monday.

* Snow Levels: Generally 3500 to 4500 feet Saturday, lowering
  Sunday night to 2500 feet over the Shasta County mountains, to
  around 3000 feet over the northern Sierra, locally lower at

* Winds: Wind mainly 15 to 25 mph at times this weekend with
  higher gusts.

* Impacts: Snow covered roads, mountain travel delays, possible
  chain controls and power outages.

* Synopsis: A couple of weather systems from the Gulf of Alaska
  will drop southward bringing mountain snow, valley rain, colder
  temperatures and breezy winds to the interior of Northern
  California Saturday through Monday. The first one impacts the
  area on Saturday with a stronger storm expected on Sunday.
