...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM PST THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Ventura County.

* WHEN...Until 900 PM PST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding until the heavier rain moves in this
  afternoon through evening. Then, roadway flooding, especially in
  low-lying and poor drainage areas, and ponding of water in urban
  areas will be likely. Shallow rockslides, mudslides, and debris
  flows will be possible, especially near steep terrain and in and
  around recent burn scars.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 1032 AM PST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
    indicated light to moderate rain across the western portion
    of the county and moving into the eastern portion by noon
    today. Heavier rain will start to move into the area this
    afternoon, with rainfall rates of 0.25 to 0.50 inches per
    hour and local rates up to 1.00 inch per hour will be
    possible, especially near any thunderstorm that forms. In and
    around recent burn areas, shallow mudslides, rockslides, and
    debris flows are possible.
  - Some locations that could experience flooding include...
    Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Ventura, Camarillo,
    Fillmore, Ojai, Moorpark, Santa Paula, Port Hueneme, Rose
    Valley, Lockwood Valley, Ventura Harbor, Newbury Park,
    Westlake Village, Point Mugu State Park, Point Mugu, La
    Conchita, and Rincon Point and recent burn scars.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM THIS AFTERNOON
TO 3 PM PST SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet with local sets to
  14 feet during the peak of the event Friday, along with
  dangerous rip currents.

* WHERE...Ventura County Beaches.

* WHEN...From 3 PM today to 3 PM PST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip
  currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large
  breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and
  rocks, and capsize small boats near shore.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Some minor flooding of low lying areas
  such as parking lots and coastal walkways is possible near the
  times of the morning high tides Friday and Saturday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay
near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in
such conditions, stay off the rocks.
