This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of central Iowa.

.DAY ONE...Tonight

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the area through tonight
for snow and blowing snow. Please refer to the National Weather
Service website at weather.gov/desmoines for further details.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday

Very cold wind chills expected by Saturday night into Sunday
morning of 10 below to 20 below. Snow on Tuesday may produce light
to moderate accumulations.

...Snow and Blowing Snow To Continue...

.Winter weather will continue to impact Iowa now through the
overnight hours tonight. A widespread 3 to 6 inches of snow has
already fallen across northern Iowa. Snow amounts have been
boosted from central Iowa to southeastern Iowa. Snow may have
serious impacts to the Friday evening commute in the Des Moines
metro/Ames areas and points to the south and east of the DSM metro
area where heavier snowfall rates are expected during the commute
time period.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST
SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow
  accumulations of 4 to 8 inches expected. Lower totals west of
  I- 35 and higher totals expected east of I-35.

* WHERE...Central to southern Iowa.

* WHEN...From noon Friday to 6 AM CST Saturday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be hazardous at times.
  Blustery north to northeast winds will lead to blowing snow
  and significant visibility restrictions. Brief periods of
  intense snowfall rates may also quickly reduce the visibility
  to around 1/2 mile or less at times. The hazardous conditions
  could seriously impact the afternoon/evening commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather
conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you
must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.
