This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North Central
Illinois...Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.

Weather hazards expected...

  Elevated Ice accumulation Risk.
  Elevated Snow and sleet Risk.
  Limited Lakeshore Flood Risk Lake County Illinois.

DISCUSSION...

Snow, heavy at times, will continue into this evening. This snow
will begin to mix with sleet and freezing rain from south to north
during the evening and is expected to change to all rain for
areas along and south of Interstate 80 by Saturday morning, with a
wintry mix still possible across far northern Illinois.

Strong southeast winds will develop this evening and continue
overnight which may lead to minor lakeshore flooding, mainly
along the Lake County Illinois shoreline.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.

Saturday...
  Elevated Non Thunderstorm Wind Risk.
  Limited Snow Risk.
  Elevated Lakeshore Flood Risk Porter County at night.
  Elevated Excessive Cold Risk at night.
Sunday...
  Elevated Excessive Cold Risk.
  Elevated Lakeshore Flood Risk Porter County.
Monday and Tuesday...
  Limited Excessive Cold Risk.

DISCUSSION:

Strong westerly winds may gust as high as 40 mph to 45 mph
late Saturday morning into Saturday evening.

As colder air spreads across the area Saturday afternoon, there
is a chance for gusty snow showers across northern Illinois. There
is also the potential for blowing snow in open areas across north
central Illinois.

Wind chill values may drop as low as -15 to -20 Sunday morning.

The strong westerly winds may lead to minor lakeshore flooding,
mainly along the northwest Indiana shoreline Saturday night and
Sunday.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM CST THIS
AFTERNOON UNTIL 6 AM CST SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Snow will begin late this
  afternoon, as early as 4 pm for the far west suburbs, and
  continue through this evening. Snowfall is expected to be
  moderate to heavy at onset, with rates of one half to one inch
  per hour. Nearly all of the snow will fall by midnight, with the
  snow changing to sleet and freezing rain after midnight. Total
  wet snow and sleet accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice
  accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch possible.

* WHERE...Lake IL, Cook, Kane and DuPage Counties.

* WHEN...Until 6 AM CST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous
  conditions will impact the evening commute.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A lull in precipitation is expected
  Saturday morning before a strong cold front brings rapidly
  falling temperatures, scattered snow showers, and strong
  westerly winds gusts of 45 mph Saturday afternoon.
