Weather hazards expected... Limited Thunderstorm Risk south of I-80. DISCUSSION... Widely scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into early this evening. Where there is a slight chance of thunderstorms as far north as I-80, the greatest coverage of storms will likely be near and south of Highway 24. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday. Wednesday afternoon and evening... Elevated Thunderstorm Risk...with an associated: Level 2 of 5 Severe Thunderstorm Risk. Elevated Flooding Risk. Limited Excessive Heat Risk. Thursday... Limited Thunderstorm Risk south of I-80. Limited Flooding Risk well south of I-80. Saturday... Elevated Flooding Risk. Limited Thunderstorm Risk. Sunday and Monday... Limited Thunderstorm Risk. DISCUSSION... Peak heat indices Wednesday afternoon are expected to be around 100 degrees. Thunderstorms are likely Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening, mainly across northern Illinois. There is the threat that some of the storms could become severe, posing a risk of locally damaging winds. In addition, thunderstorms will be capable of producing torrential downpours which could lead localized flash flooding. There will be periodic bouts of showers and thunderstorms Saturday through Monday. Any one of which could produce very heavy rainfall and flooding. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has issued an Air Pollution Action Day for Tuesday July 15th for the greater Chicago metropolitan area. A Chicago area "Air Pollution Action Day" is declared when weather conditions are such that widespread ozone and or particular levels are expected to be at or above the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) category of the Air Quality Index (AQI) for multiple days. Ozone is expected to be the primary pollutant of concern. Active children and adults, especially people with pulmonary or respiratory disease such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor activity.
