...Risk for River Ice and Ice Jams Increasing...

River ice has developed on several northern Illinois and
northwest Indiana rivers early this week, including formation of
some ice jams. Favorable conditions will continue for river ice
and probable ice jam development for the following rivers and
their tributaries...Rock, Fox, DuPage, Des Plaines, and Kankakee.
This risk will continue through late this week.

Due to the current well below freezing temperatures through early
this week, conditions will remain favorable for rapid river ice
formation. Ice jams will also be likely, with the highest risk
along the Rock, Fox, and lower Kankakee Rivers. Ice jams may
cause rises on area rivers with little warning.

This outlook means that elevated river levels and potential
impacts are possible, but the timing, extent, and severity remain
uncertain. Persons with interests along area rivers should closely
monitor the latest forecasts.
