A lesser chance of storms is forecast for tonight mainly along Interstate 64. A few strong to severe storms with damaging winds cannot be ruled out this afternoon, but locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be the primary concerns. The Excessive Heat Warning continues through 9 PM this evening. Please refer to the Warning for details. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected near a cold front as it passes Friday afternoon into Friday night. A few storms could linger into Saturday, especially over west Kentucky. A few strong storms with gusty winds will be possible along and ahead of the front Saturday afternoon and evening. Otherwise, locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be the primary concerns. Heat indices will likely climb into the triple digits over much of the region again Friday afternoon. This will be most likely over the Evansville Tri State region. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
