Hazardous Weather Outlook National Weather Service Hastings NE 956 AM CDT Fri Mar 31 2023 KSZ005>007-017>019-NEZ039>041-046>049-060>064-072>077-082>087- 011500- Phillips-Smith-Jewell-Rooks-Osborne-Mitchell-Valley-Greeley-Nance- Sherman-Howard-Merrick-Polk-Dawson-Buffalo-Hall-Hamilton-York- Gosper-Phelps-Kearney-Adams-Clay-Fillmore-Furnas-Harlan-Franklin- Webster-Nuckolls-Thayer- 956 AM CDT Fri Mar 31 2023 This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for south central Nebraska and portions of north central Kansas. .DAY ONE...Today and Tonight. This afternoon into tonight, the entire outlook area will endure strong west to northwest winds. Sustained speeds of 25 to 35 MPH will be common, along with gusts mainly as high as 45 to 55 MPH. For much of the outlook area, but especially in Nebraska, the overall-strongest winds will occur this evening, when a few gusts could flirt with 60 MPH, especially in some counties north of Interstate 80. Wind speeds will then slowly-but-steadily subside between midnight and sunrise on Saturday. In addition to the strong winds themselves, these winds could contribute to several additional concerns. First, this afternoon, the combination of the strong winds along with low relative humidity values will result in near-critical to critical fire weather conditions across north central Kansas, particularly Rooks, Osborne and Mitchell counties where a Red Flag Warning is now in effect from Noon to 8 PM CDT. Second, at least patchy blowing dust appears possible this afternoon in these strong winds, mainly across north central Kansas, which could result in localized visibility reductions. Finally, farther north in Nebraska, especially north of Interstate 80, the strong winds will combine with passing snow showers this afternoon into this evening to create at least brief periods of reduced visibility. Although actual snow accumulation should be less than one-half inch most everywhere that sees snow, visibility reductions to well under 1 mile cannot be ruled out for short periods, perhaps causing some travel concerns. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday. On Sunday afternoon, near-critical fire weather conditions could develop mainly within Nebraska counties along and north of Interstate 80, due to the combination of west-northwest winds gusting as high as 20 to 30 MPH, and also relative humidity falling as low as 20 to 25 percent. Although still several days away, it appears that another strong weather system could bring at least another round of strong winds to the entire outlook area Tuesday into Wednesday, with precipitation potential during this time frame more uncertain. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation should not be needed through tonight. && More information may be obtained at the following web page: https://www.weather.gov/hastings $$ Rossi
