A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect elsewhere with the exception of Norton and Graham counties. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY... Dangerous wind chills of 10 below and less are forecast through much of the day time hours Monday; followed by less than 20 below wind chills overnight for the whole area. For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills as ranging from 15 below to 30 below zero. * WHERE...Portions of east central Colorado, northwest and west central Kansas, and southwest Nebraska. * WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 11 PM MST /midnight CST/ this evening to 11 AM MST /noon CST/ Monday. For the Extreme Cold Watch, from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia may occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Young or smaller animals are at greatest risk for frostbite and hypothermia. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Cloud cover tonight is forecast to decrease during the morning hours Monday. If the cloud cover can end quicker then even colder than forecasted wind chills and temperatures are possible. Those in the deepest snow pack across Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties in Colorado may locally colder than 24 below zero wind chills but the coverage of this at this time looks to be limited. Monday night and Tuesday morning continue to look to be the coldest of the event. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... To prevent water pipes from freezing; insulate or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly.
