Flood Watch

Flood Watch
National Weather Service Gray ME
1154 AM EST Sun Dec 10 2023

...Heavy rain and snowmelt will cause widespread flooding tonight
through Monday...
Rain will overspread the region tonight bringing multiple rounds of
heavy rainfall through Monday. The warm moist air is expected to
melt out the snowpack from the foothills southward. Most areas
should anticipate 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, which will cause small
streams and rivers to reach bankfull. A heavier swath of 3 to 5
inches is possible from the foothills to the coast, which could
result in potentially significant flash flooding and widespread
stream flooding. Main stem rivers could reach flood levels, with
particular concern in the Kennebec Valley and coastal rivers. The
deeper snowpack in the higher terrain is expected to hold, limiting
the flooding to a few fast responding streams in these areas.
