This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of eastern North
Dakota, west central and northwest Minnesota.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

There is a level 1 of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms for
portions of west central Minnesota this afternoon. Hazards could
include damaging wind gusts and hail. Threat though is dependent
on location of front, and threat area may end up being farther
south.

Exception to this is southeast Grant County MN where there is a
level 2 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday

The probability for widespread hazardous weather is low.

...AIR QUALITY ALERT NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM CDT TUESDAY...

* WHAT...The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an Air
Quality Alert for fine particles pollution. The Air Quality Index
(AQI) is expected to reach the Orange or Unhealthy for Sensitive
Groups category.

* WHERE...Northwest and north central Minnesota.

* WHEN...Until 11 PM CDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease
(including asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, may
experience health effects.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light winds will allow for areas of existing
wildfire smoke across northern Minnesota to linger into this evening
and overnight. An additional round of heavy surface smoke from
wildfires across southern Canada is expected to transport into
northern Minnesota on Tuesday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including
asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, should limit
prolonged or heavy exertion.

Reduce or eliminate activities that contribute to air pollution, such
as outdoor burning, and use of residential wood burning devices.
Reduce vehicle trips and vehicle idling as much as possible.

Keep windows closed overnight to prevent smoke from getting indoors.
