This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of northeast
Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

.DAY ONE...Tonight

Wildfire smoke will linger overnight. Please refer to the latest
Air Quality Alerts for Minnesota and Wisconsin for more details.

Thunderstorms are expected this evening across northern Minnesota.
A few storms may be strong to severe capable of producing hail up
to one and a half inches and damaging winds. Heavy rainfall may
lead to ponding or localized flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday

An Air Quality Alert remains in effect for northern MN through
11 PM Tuesday.

Additional thunderstorm chances are forecast through the end of
the week. A few strong to severe storms are possible again
Tuesday. Locally heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding
Tuesday.

The areas affected include...
  Duluth MN to Port Wing WI...
  Lake Superior west of a line from Saxon Harbor WI to Grand Portage
  MN beyond 5NM...
  Outer Apostle Islands Beyond 5 NM from Mainland...

At 552 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable
of producing winds up to 30 knots. These thunderstorms were located
along a line extending from 15 nm northwest of Castle Danger to 27
nm west of Duluth Harbor, moving east at 40 knots.

These storms should approach the North Shore between the Twin Ports
and Silver Bay between 645 and 715 AM, including Knife River, Two
Harbors and Castle Danger.

Locations impacted include...
Superior Entry, Sand Island, Barkers Island, Twin Points Safe Harbor,
Devils Island, Beaver Bay, McQuade Harbor, Herbster, Meyers Beach,
York Island, Larsmont, Superior Harbor, Split Rock Lighthouse, Eagle
Island, Port Wing Harbor, Rocky Island, Raspberry Island, Knife River
Marina, Castle Danger, and Duluth Lift Bridge Channel.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher
waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor
immediately until these storms pass.

  - At 456 AM CDT Tuesday, Doppler radar and automated rain
    gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor
    flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the
    advisory area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen.
  - Additional rainfall amounts of up to 1 inch are expected over
    the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

...AIR QUALITY ALERT NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM CDT TUESDAY...

* WHAT...The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an Air
  Quality Alert for fine particles pollution. The Air Quality
  Index (AQI) is expected to reach the Red or Unhealthy category.

* WHERE...Northeast Minnesota.

* WHEN...Until 11 PM CDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Some members of the general public may experience
  health effects. Sensitive groups, such as people with lung
  disease (including asthma), heart disease, and children and
  older adults, may experience health effects.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Light winds will allow existing wildfire
  smoke across northern Minnesota to linger into this evening and
  overnight. Concentrations are expected to be highest along and
  near the shores of Lake Superior. An additional round of heavy
  surface smoke from wildfires across southern Canada is expected
  to transport into northern Minnesota on Tuesday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Sensitive groups, such as people with lung disease (including
asthma), heart disease, and children and older adults, should
avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. The general public should limit
prolonged or heavy exertion. Reduce or eliminate activities that
contribute to air pollution, such as outdoor burning, and use of
residential wood burning devices. Reduce vehicle trips and vehicle
idling as much as possible. Keep windows closed overnight to
prevent smoke from getting indoors.
