PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Do not drive through flowing water. Nearly half of all flood
fatalities are vehicle related. As little as 6 inches of water may
cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Two feet of water will

* At  1:31 PM Tuesday the stage was 22.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 24.3 feet by
  early Thursday morning. The river will fall below flood stage
  Sunday morning.
* At 22.0 feet...Low-lying areas on the Missouri side of the river
  begin to flood.

  Southern DeKalb County in northwestern Missouri...

* Until 300 PM CDT.

* At 1135 AM CDT, emergency management reported flooding in numerous
  locations across the warned area. Up to three inches of rain have
  already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Kansas City, St. Joseph, Leavenworth, Liberty, Gladstone, Lansing,
  Excelsior Springs, Atchison, Cameron, Smithville, Kearney,
  Parkville, Platte City, North Kansas City, Sugar Creek, Riverside,
  Lawson, Plattsburg, Lathrop and Weatherby Lake.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

* At  9:30 AM Tuesday the stage was 20.4 feet.
* Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 21.8 feet by
  early Thursday morning then begin falling.
* At 24.0 feet...A residential area in northwest St. Joseph begins to
  flood.
* At 21.0 feet...Riverfront Park in St. Joseph begins to flood.
* At 19.0 feet...Backwater from the Missouri River floods property
  along the Nodaway river at Nodaway, Missouri.
* At 17.0 feet...Lowland flooding upstream and downstream from St.
  Joseph occurs.

west central Missouri...as well as extreme eastern Kansas.

Another round of thunderstorms are expected this morning into the
afternoon. Severe weather in the form of large hail, damaging winds,
and isolated tornadoes will be possible. Flash flooding will be
possible in the strongest activity.

Active weather will continue late in the workweek into the weekend as

...Flash Flood Watch Continues...

.Another round of thunderstorms will bring more torrential rain to
the region early this morning into the afternoon hours. Rainfall
rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will quickly lead to flash
flooding, given the antecedent rain. Expect storms to sweep east
of the forecast area late in the afternoon and early evening.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of Kansas and Missouri, including the following
  areas, in Kansas, Atchison KS, Johnson KS, Leavenworth, Linn
  KS, Miami, and Wyandotte. In Missouri, Bates, Buchanan,
  Caldwell, Carroll, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, De Kalb,
  Grundy, Jackson, Lafayette, Livingston, Platte, Putnam, Ray,
  and Sullivan.

* Through this evening

* Another round of thunderstorms with heavy rainfall is expected
  this morning into the early afternoon. Total rainfall amounts of
  two to four inches will be possible during this period. This
  additional rainfall will fall on already saturated soils, where
  flooding may be ongoing, increasing the potential for flash
  flooding.


* Low-lying and flood-prone areas will be most susceptible to the
  dangers of flash flooding. Areas near rivers, creeks, and
  streams will likely become flooded during and immediately after
  heavy rainfall.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
