An active weather period is expected Monday night through Thursday as several rounds of precipitation are expected to impact the northern mountains of North Carolina. Enough cold air is expected to be in place Monday night and early Tuesday for precipitation to fall as a wintry mix, with freezing rain being the most predominant type. Minor ice accumulations are possible, potentially impacting travel. A period of heavy rainfall is possible Wednesday night into Thursday as a slow-moving cold front enters the area.
