A Red Flag Warning is in effect for all of south central Nebraska and north central Kansas from 1 PM to 7 PM today. Expect afternoon relative humidity values to drop below 20 percent as winds still remain gusty up to 40 mph this afternoon. The result will be any fires which do develop will rapidly spread and intensify. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday. The afternoon hours on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will bring at least near critical fire weather conditions to most of south central Nebraska and north central Kansas. Though still a few days away, a mid week storm system could bring strong winds and the chance for an accumulating snowfall late Tuesday night and Wednesday. The National Weather Service in Hastings has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM CDT this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * WINDS...North 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Wind speeds will drop off in the early evening hours. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Ranging from 12 to 22 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Despite parts of the area just receiving some light precipitation, the combination of strong winds and low relative humidity will dry out dormant grasses very quickly.
