This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for south central Nebraska and
portions of north central Kansas.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.

Areas of light to moderate snow will persist across much of the
outlook area through tonight, although the most persistent snow is
expected over portions of northern Kansas. Please refer to the
Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory for more details.

Wind chills of -25 to -35 degrees are expected tonight into
Tuesday morning.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday.

Light to moderate snow will continue through Tuesday. Widespread
storm total accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected by
Tuesday evening, with lowest amounts northeast of the Tri-Cities,
and heaviest amounts, perhaps locally as high as 5 to 6 inches,
along and south of the state line.

Dangerously cold air and wind chill temperatures will persist
through much of the upcoming week. Wind chills of -10 to -30
degrees are expected during the entire time frame from Tuesday
through Thursday morning, and an Extreme Cold Warning remains in
effect for the entire forecast area. Please refer to the latest

TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 4 inches.

* WHERE...Portions of north central Kansas and central and south
  central Nebraska.

* WHEN...Until 6 PM CST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous
  conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road
conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by
calling 5 1 1.

Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while
driving. If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken
on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and
slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.

...EXTREME COLD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 33 below expected.

* WHERE...Portions of north central Kansas and central, east
  central, and south central Nebraska.

* WHEN...Until noon CST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero
  could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
  Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is
  exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing
  temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.

To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to
drip slowly.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and
unfrozen water.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
