...AIR QUALITY ALERT IS IN EFFECT FOR MONDAY JUNE 23...

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued
a code orange air quality alert Monday for Middlesex and Mercer
Counties in New Jersey.

A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution
concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for
sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children...people
suffering from asthma... heart disease or other lung
diseases...and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can
be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.

...EXTREME HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 110.

* WHERE...Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Warren, and
  Hunterdon Counties.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
  extreme heat and high humidity events.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The hottest temperatures and heat indices
  will occur Monday and Tuesday. Low temperatures near 75 to 80
  degrees and high humidity will not offer much relief from the heat
  at night.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

If you do not have air conditioning in your home or lack shelter,
you can call 211 for assistance locating appropriate shelter from
the heat.
