Total snow accumulations between 12 and 18 inches. * WHERE...Portions of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania. * WHEN...From 1 AM Sunday to 7 PM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will overspread Northeast PA and the New York Southern Tier before daybreak Sunday morning, moving north to the I-90 corridor by the mid-morning hours on Sunday. At this time, the heaviest snowfall is forecast to be from south-central NY and areas southward into Northeast PA and Catskills. However, further adjustments to the storm track are possible in the coming days. Snowfall could be very heavy at times Sunday through Sunday night with hourly rates exceeding 2 inches per hour. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Binghamton NY 458 PM EST Fri Jan 23 2026 NYZ009-017-018-036-037-240300- Northern Oneida-Southern Cayuga-Onondaga-Madison-Southern Oneida- 458 PM EST Fri Jan 23 2026 ...PERIOD OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS EXPECTED THIS EVENING... A lake effect snow band will drop south through the area along an arctic cold front early this evening. This will bring a period of heavy snow to the area, along with strong gusty west-northwest winds. Visibility may occasionally drop below 1 mile, and locally below 1/4 mile at times as this snow band moves through the area. Winds will be gusting between 35 to 45 mph at times as well. Snowfall amounts are forecast to be between 1 to 4 inches by midnight. Lingering lighter snow and blowing snow continue into the overnight hours. If traveling this evening be prepared for the rapidly changing winter weather conditions. Plan some extra time to reach your destination safely. $$
