...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH FRIDAY
EVENING...

* LOCATIONS...Atlantic ocean beaches of Southern Nassau, Southern
Queens, Kings (Brooklyn), Southeastern Suffolk and Southwestern
  Suffolk.

* TIMING...Through Friday evening.

* SURF ZONE IMPACTS...Very strong rip currents will be dangerous
to anyone who enters the surf, through Friday evening, and
possibly into Saturday. High surf of 5 to 8 feet is possible
late Thursday through Friday. Beach flooding and erosion are
possible during the times of high tide.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in
sandbars and near structures such as groins, jetties, and piers.
Talk to lifeguards and beach officials to learn about any surf
hazards and heed their advice. Pay attention to flags and posted
signs and swim in life guarded areas.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float, and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
