SIGNIFICANT WINDS. RISK...Elevated. AREA...Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. ONSET...Ongoing. FIRE WEATHER DANGER. RISK...Elevated. AREA...Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas. ONSET...Late Morning. DISCUSSION... Strong and gusty winds will continue through the morning and afternoon, with gusts in the 35 to 45 mph range expected across much of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. The gusty winds will combine with well above normal temperatures and slow to return moisture to lead to an increased threat for rapid fire spread in much of the area today. Both the windy conditions and the fire weather threat will improve with sunset. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT... Spotter Activation Not Expected. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday. FRIDAY...Thunderstorm...High Fire Weather...and High Wind Potential. SATURDAY...High Fire Weather and High Wind Potential. SUNDAY...High Wind Potential. MONDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...No Hazards. EXTENDED DISCUSSION... Wind gusts from 25 to 35 mph will remain possible on Friday ahead of the approaching cold front, which could lead to localized increases in the fire weather concerns. A few showers and thunderstorms may develop in portions of southeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas late Friday into early Saturday morning, with a limited threat for strong to severe weather. After the cold front passes, winds will shift to the northwest and remain gusty through Sunday. This may locally continue the fire weather concerns.
