...THE RISK OF FLOODING CONTINUES FOR PUERTO RICO AND THE VIRGIN
ISLANDS THROUGH SATURDAY...

An upper-level trough moving across the Dominican Republic, combined
with abundant moisture, will result in the development of showers
and thunderstorms across the local islands today and Saturday.

Today, showers are expected to develop across the islands, with the
highest accumulations across the interior, west and northwest Puerto
Rico. Then, tonight, as the trough crosses the region, the showers
and thunderstorms will spread across the eastern half of Puerto
Rico, including Vieques and Culebra, and also over the Virgin
Islands. This activity is expected to continue on Saturday too, but
the weather is expected to improve on Sunday, as the trough departs
toward the open Atlantic waters.

Based on the latest guidance, there is a moderate confidence in the
forecast (40-60%), and the rainfall amounts are still expected to
range from 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts.

Due to already saturated soils and rivers and tributaries running
well above normal levels, there is a risk for flooding across Puerto
Rico and the Virgin Islands through Saturday. Additional impacts
include landslide, urban, and flash flood in areas with the heaviest
amount of rainfall.

512 AM AST Fri May 16 2025

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of Puerto Rico.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

.Lightning...Isolated thunderstorms, particularly across eastern,
central, and western to northwestern Puerto Rico, as well as
portions of the San Juan metropolitan area. Stay alert and be
prepared to take shelter if storms develop.

.Excessive Rainfall...Flooding in urban areas, roads, small
streams, and washes, particularly across eastern Puerto Rico,
interior to northwestern Puerto Rico and downwind of El Yunque
and the local islands. There is a low chance of isolated flash
floods. Elsewhere, plan for water ponding on roads and in poorly
drained areas.

.Wind...Breezy conditions (18-22 kts | 21-25 mph), particularly
across coastal areas of southern and northern Puerto Rico, Vieques
and Culebra. Unsecured items could blow around.

.Marine Conditions...Small craft should exercise caution,
particularly across the offshore Caribbean waters and the Mona
Passage.

.Rip Currents...Life-threatening rip currents are possible in the
surf zone, particularly across northern and southeastern PR, as
well as eastern Vieques and Culebra. Isolated stronger rip
currents may occur elsewhere, especially near piers, jetties, and
channels.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday

Increasing moisture and favorable upper-level conditions will
enhance shower and thunderstorm development, raising the risk of
flooding and lightning. Limited to elevated risk through Monday,
becoming limited after. The most significant risk is likely
through Saturday, when peak moisture and instability are forecast.
A limited excessive heat risk will return next week, especially
in northern and western Puerto Rico, particularly for those
sensitive to heat when outdoors without proper cooling or
hydration. A Saharan Air Layer will also continue to filter into
the local area during the next few days.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotter activation will not be needed.
