A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the east Tennessee mountains this afternoon and evening. A fire danger statement is in effect for the remainder of east Tennessee, southwest Virginia, and southwest North Carolina. Strong gusty winds expected across the East Tennessee mountains and foothills as well as parts of the central and southern Tennessee valley and Cumberland Plateau this afternoon and tonight. Winds in Johnson and Carter counties may not be quite as high, but still expect gusts over 30 mph there. * HUMIDITY...The lowest RH values will be from the Smokies northward where values around 15 percent are expected. However, even the mountain zones of Monroe and Polk county will see 20 to 25 percent Min RH as well. Expect a slow rise of RH through the afternoon into the evening as southerly winds bring moisture levels up slightly. * IMPACTS...any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or are expected to occur shortly.
