This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the South Plains, Rolling
Plains, and the far Southern Texas Panhandle.

.DAY ONE...This afternoon and tonight.

A significant winter storm will impact the region this afternoon and
continuing through Sunday morning.

A mix of freezing rain, sleet, and some snow will develop across a
majority of the forecast area this afternoon and will persist
through tonight. The highest ice accumulations are expected across
southern portions of the South Plains and Rolling Plains where up to
one tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is forecast. Snow and sleet
accumulations of 1-2 inches are forecast through tonight. A Winter
Storm Warning is in effect for the entire region beginning at noon
today. Dangerous travel conditions will likely develop by this
evening area-wide.

Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 15 degrees below zero are
expected tonight. An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for the
entire region beginning at midnight tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.

Precipitation is expected to change to sleet and snow Saturday
afternoon, then all snow Saturday night, with heavy snow expected
across most of the region from Saturday night through Sunday morning.
Total snow and sleet accumulations upwards of one foot are now
forecast across the far southern Texas Panhandle, with accumulations
ranging between 4-8 inches elsewhere across the Caprock and Rolling
Plains. Travel will become difficult or nearly impossible Saturday
night into Sunday morning.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the entire area until
noon on Sunday.

Bitterly cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills as low as 15
degrees below zero are also expected to occur on Sunday morning and
Monday morning. An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for the
entire region until noon on Monday.

...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO
NOON CST MONDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero
  expected.

* WHERE...The South Plains, Rolling Plains, and the far southern
  Texas Panhandle.

* WHEN...From midnight tonight to noon CST Monday.

* IMPACTS...The cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero could
  result in frostbite and hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
  Frostbite can occur in as little as 30 minutes if unprotected skin
  is exposed to these temperatures. The extended period of freezing
  temperatures could also cause ruptured water pipes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Limit time outdoors. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and
gloves if you must go outside.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals
have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation is expected through early
  Saturday afternoon, followed by a changeover to sleet and snow by
  Saturday evening. Ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch
  are expected through Saturday morning, with the highest amounts of
  ice in the southern South and Rolling PLains. Widespread snow and
  sleet accumulations of 4-8 inches are expected, with upwards of
  one foot of snow and sleet in the far southern Texas Panhandle.
  The heaviest sleet and snow will fall Saturday night into Sunday
  morning.

* WHERE...The South Plains, Rolling Plains, and the far southern
  Texas Panhandle.

* WHEN...Until noon CST Sunday, January 25th.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
  likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult
  to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday
  evening commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Travel is strongly discouraged. If travel is absolutely necessary,
drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along
with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables,
flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a
first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case
you become stranded.

Travel will become nearly impossible Saturday night into Sunday.
Exercise the proper precautions against extreme cold and potentially
heavy snow should travel be necessary. The risk of becoming
stranded, particularly Saturday night and into Sunday morning, is
high, especially outside of any town or city limits.
