This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of Deep South
Texas.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

There will be an enhanced threat of wildfire growth and spread
today as much drier air moves in behind a cold front. A Red Flag
Warning is in effect for all of deep south Texas from late
this morning into the evening.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for Zapata, Jim Hogg and Brooks
County from noon to 4 PM this afternoon due to strong northerly
winds behind a cold front.

There is a High Risk of rip currents along the lower Texas beaches
due to elevated nearshore wave heights.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday

There will be an enhanced threat of wildfire growth and spread
Thursday afternoon due to dry and breezy conditions.

An elevated rip current risk will persist through Thursday due to
larger nearshore wave heights.

Spotter activation will not be needed.

...COASTAL FLOOD STATEMENT IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM CDT THIS EVENING
THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...

* WHAT...For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip currents.
  For the Coastal Flood Statement, isolated minor coastal
  flooding expected.

* WHERE...Coastal Kenedy, Coastal Cameron and Coastal Willacy
  Counties.

* WHEN...For the High Rip Current Risk, until 1 AM CDT Thursday.
  For the Coastal Flood Statement, from 11 PM CDT this evening
  through late tonight.

* IMPACTS...Wave run-up may approach the dunes along narrow
  beaches. Beach equipment, such as umbrellas and chairs, could
  be moved by waves. Vehicles driving along narrow beaches may
  experience higher water levels. Elevated water levels may also
  occur across the Laguna Madre and South Bay, and along State
  Highway 4 west of Boca Chica State Park. Rip currents can
  sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...High tide occurs at 1:22 AM CDT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Do not drive through flooded roadways.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

...Rapid Growth and Spread of Wildfires Expected This Afternoon....

.Strong north to northwest winds will persist behind this morning`s
cold front as relative humidity percentages drop into the teens
by this afternoon. Rapid spread and growth of any wildfires that
are sparked can be expected with very dry and abundant fuels.
Drought conditions are ongoing or worsening for Zapata, Jim Hogg,
and Starr counties.

FIRE WEATHER ZONES 248, 249, 250, 251, 252, 253, 254, 255, 256,
257, 351, AND 353...

* AFFECTED AREA...Fire weather zones 248, 249, 250, 251, 252,
  253, 254, 255, 256, 257, 351, AND 353.

* TIMING...Now through 7 PM this evening.

* WIND...Northwest 15 to 25 mph gusts near 35 mph.

* HUMIDITY...10 to 20 percent this afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
  Outdoor burning is not recommended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather conditions are
occurring now...or will shortly. In general...these conditions
include sustained 20 foot winds of 25 MPH or greater...humidity
ranging from below 25 percent in Zapata County to below
45 percent along the coast...each lasting for 2 hours or longer...
  and cured fuels. Humidity below 25 percent in most areas will
trigger fire danger at lower wind speeds. Detailed decision

...STRONG AND GUSTY NORTHERLY WINDS ANTICIPATED TO DEVELOP THIS
AFTERNOON...

Northerly winds will increase and become quite gusty this
afternoon behind this morning`s cold front. Sustained wind speeds
between 20 and 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph will be possible
across much of the Rio Grande Valley and Deep South Texas through
early this evening. An upgrade to a Wind Advisory may be needed.

Motorists are urged to use caution if traveling in any high-
profile vehicles or traveling through exposed locations such as
the Queen Isabella Causeway and highway overpasses. Residents may
also want to move any lighter patio furniture, outdoor
decorations, and trash cans either indoors or into protected
locations.
