This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of eastern West
Virginia, northern and central Virginia, and central and western
Maryland.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the entire area starting
later this evening and continuing overnight. Significant snow and
sleet accumulations are expected along with ice accumulation from
freezing rain. The impacts may lead to significant travel delays,
closures, and threats to life and property.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the entire area through
Sunday night. Significant snow and sleet accumulations are
expected along with ice accumulation from freezing rain. The
impacts may lead to significant travel delays, closures, and
threats to life and property.

Dangerously cold wind chills are also possible at times through
most of next week.

...MAJOR WINTER STORM WILL IMPACT THE REGION THIS EVENING THROUGH
SUNDAY EVENING...

.A large area of precipitation will overrun Arctic air in place over
the Mid-Atlantic. This will lead to widespread significant snow
beginning this evening, with the potential for ice Sunday especially
south of Highway 50 and near and east of Interstate 95. In addition
to the high threat for significant snow and ice, very cold
temperatures are expected tonight through the middle of next week
with sub-zero wind chills likely at times.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO
1 AM EST MONDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet
  accumulations between 6 and 10 inches, with up to 14 inches
  possible. Ice accumulations of one to two tenths, mainly south of
  US-33, and up to one quarter inch of ice accumulation is possible
  along the Blue Ridge.

* WHERE...Portions of central, northwest, and western Virginia and
  eastern West Virginia.

* WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 1 AM EST Monday.

* IMPACTS...Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice.
  Travel could be nearly impossible.


* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will likely overspread the area by
  tonight, becoming heavy at times with rates of one to two inches
  per hour possible at times. A mix with sleet or freezing rain is
  expected Sunday, especially south of Interstate 70.  Significant
  icing is possible especially across central Virginia.  Visibility
  of one-quarter mile or less is possible at times. A prolonged
  period of wind chills in the teens and single digits continues
  this evening and lasting through the middle of next week, with
  sub-zero wind chills possible at times.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for
the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use
extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.
