The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Southeastern Amherst County in central Virginia...
  Northwestern Appomattox County in central Virginia...
  North Central Campbell County in central Virginia...

* Until 100 AM EDT Tuesday.

* At 655 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Between 4 and 5 inches of rain
  have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are
  possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected
  to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Lynchburg...                       Concord...
  Stonewall...                       Madison Heights...
  Bocock...

This includes the following streams and drainages...
  Graham Creek, Allens Creek, Harris Creek, Holts Branch, Ivy Creek,
  James River, Fishing Creek, Blackfoot Creek and Higginbotham Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of central Virginia, including the following
  counties, Amherst, Appomattox and Campbell.

* WHEN...Until 930 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 625 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
    thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
    shortly in the advisory area. Between 3 and 4 inches of rain
    have fallen.
  - This includes the following streams and drainages...
    Fishing Creek, Holts Branch, Harris Creek and James River.
    Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over
    the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
