...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EDT TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of northern Virginia, including the following
  county, Fairfax.

* WHEN...Until 100 AM EDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water
  crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 700 PM EDT, The stream gauge on Acccotink Creek near
    Strathmeade Springs is about to go into flood stage following
    heavy rain earlier this afternoon. Flooding is ongoing or
    expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 1.5 and
    2 inches of rain have fallen.
  - Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is
    expected.
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...

...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 845 PM EDT THIS
EVENING FOR THE NORTHWESTERN DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA AND SOUTH CENTRAL
MONTGOMERY, NORTHWESTERN ARLINGTON AND FAIRFAX COUNTIES...

At 559 PM EDT, Emergency management reported flash flooding across
the warned area. Between 2.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. The
expected rainfall rate is 2 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional
rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area.
Flash flooding is already occurring.

HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Heavy rain producing
         flash flooding.

SOURCE...Emergency management reported ongoing water rescues in
         the Tysons Corner area.

IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
         urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

  Extreme Western Allegany, Frederick MD, Northern Baltimore,
  Northwest Harford, Northwest Howard, Northwest Montgomery, Prince
  Georges, Southeast Harford, Southern Baltimore, St. Marys and
  Washington, Virginia, including the following areas, Albemarle,
  Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria, Augusta, Central Virginia Blue

  creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
  Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Showers and thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall continue
    to move across the area through this evening. Rainfall rates
    up to 2 to 3 inches per hour are likely, that could lead to
    scattered instances of flash flooding. This is most likely in
    areas that see multiple rounds of storms, and that could see
    storm total rain amounts of 4 to 6 inches.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the Maryland portion of the
Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor through
central Maryland, northern Virginia, and District of Columbia.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight

A Flood Watch is in effect from 2PM this afternoon through this
evening. Scattered instances of flooding are expected. There is a
potential for more widespread flooding with considerable impact.

A few severe thunderstorms are also possible which may bring
isolated instances of damaging wind gusts.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday

Scattered instances of flash flooding are possible Tuesday
afternoon.
