Relative humidity values of 12 to 23 percent will combine with wind gusts of 15 to 25 mph and dry fuels to result in an increased danger of fires burning out of control this afternoon and evening across northwest North Carolina, portions of southwest and central Virginia, and southeast West Virginia this afternoon and evening. People are urged to avoid outdoor burning today. If you must burn, use extreme caution since fires can grow quickly and become dangerous in these conditions. Ensure that fire suppression equipment is readily available. Properly extinguish and dispose of any smoking materials.
